Visit of the Council of Higher Education Evaluation Board to YÖDAK: Emphasis on Quality and Cooperation in Higher Education
A meeting was held on Wednesday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the meeting hall of the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK), with the participation of the President and members of YÖDAK of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, as well as the President and members of the Evaluation Board of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) of the Republic of Türkiye.
This visit has been considered a significant step towards strengthening quality assurance, institutional capacity development, and alignment with international standards within the higher education system of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Within the scope of the meeting, ongoing collaborative efforts carried out under the longstanding institutional cooperation between YÖK and YÖDAK were reviewed, and mutual consultations were held on establishing a planned, systematic, and sustainable structure in higher education.
During the discussions, particular emphasis was placed on more effectively structuring the academic, administrative, and quality-oriented development processes of universities in the TRNC, strengthening monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, and institutionalizing the principles of transparency and accountability in higher education. Furthermore, a shared commitment was expressed to enhancing coordination between the evaluationary processes conducted by the YÖK Evaluation Board and YÖDAK’s regulatory and coordinating role.
The meeting also underscored the importance of joint initiatives aimed at institutionalizing a culture of quality in higher education, reinforcing institutional standards, and increasing international competitiveness. In this regard, a consensus was reached to further deepen and sustain the ongoing continuous and systematic engagement between the two institutions.
The President and members of YÖDAK stated that the visit would make significant contributions to building a stronger, more transparent, and more sustainable higher education system in the TRNC, emphasizing that the strategic cooperation developed with YÖK will continue to be one of the key driving forces shaping the future of higher education.
