Message from YÖDAK on the Anniversary of Granting Turkish Women the Right to Vote and Be Elected – 5 December

5 December 1934 marks one of the most significant milestones in the history of our Republic, as women—an indispensable pillar of democratic societies—gained their political rights. On the 91st anniversary of granting Turkish women the right to vote and be elected, we commemorate this meaningful day with pride and gratitude.
As the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK), we believe that the increased visibility, strength, and influence of women in social life, academia, science, and decision-making mechanisms is one of the essential prerequisites for sustainable development.
The contributions of all women academics, researchers, students, and administrative staff within the higher education sector of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus constitute one of the most powerful drivers of social progress. Ensuring a higher education ecosystem in which women enjoy equal opportunities, enhanced representation, and the freedom to participate fully in intellectual and productive spheres is a shared responsibility for all of us.
On this meaningful day, we respectfully commemorate Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and all leaders who fought for the social and political rights of women, and we reaffirm our commitment to supporting all initiatives that promote the empowerment of women.
