Message from YÖDAK on August 1st

August 1st marks three significant milestones in the history of the Turkish Cypriot people: the Conquest of Cyprus (1571), the Establishment of the Turkish Resistance Organization – TMT (1958), and the Founding of the Security Forces Command – GKK (1976). It is a day filled with pride, remembrance, and a deep sense of national unity.
The conquest of Cyprus by the Ottoman Empire in 1571 brought the island under Turkish sovereignty and initiated an era of peace, justice, and cultural transformation. This date represents the historical foundation of the Turkish presence on the island.
Founded in 1958, the Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT) became a symbol of resilience and solidarity during the most challenging times in the struggle for the survival and identity of the Turkish Cypriot people. TMT’s sacrifices and unwavering commitment laid the groundwork for the community’s freedom and dignity.
Established in 1976, the Security Forces Command (GKK) has played a vital role in ensuring public safety and maintaining peace. Today, it continues to be a pillar of stability and security for our society.
We respectfully commemorate our martyrs, extend our heartfelt gratitude to our veterans, and salute all members of the Security Forces and the Turkish Cypriot community.
Happy August 1st, Communal Resistance Day.
